In the 1850 census of Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio, he was living in the Ezra MUNSON household. His father's sister had married a Henry Munson and he was probably named after this uncle and was also related to the Ezra Munson family.

On 26 Jul 1863 he married Caroline FRY, daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Stanton) Fry and they had 10 children. Their marriage certificate shows he was from Summit County, Ohio, and she was from McLean County, IL.

According to census records their first two children were born in Illinois between 1864 and 1866. The last eight children were born in DeKalb, Missouri, between 1867 and 1882. They were in Dekalb County on the 1870 and 1880 census records and his occupation is listed as a farmer. They were in Halstead, Harvey County, Kansas, on 27 Oct 1883 when Henry died.
