Definite arrangements have not as yet been made for Alerich O. Scott, 83, of Covington, who died Tuesday night in an Enid hospital.

He was born in Brown County, IL in 1865 and moved with his parents to Missouri at the age of six. In 1906 he came to Oklahoma, settling on a farm near Covington and had made his home there since.

He was a member of the Christian church in Covington. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Coleman of Hutchinson, KS, Mrs. Alma Stout of Douglas, Mrs. Fannie Gowin of Bartlesville and Mrs. Rachel Rhoades of Roswell, N.M; four sons, Ernest of Covington, Delmar of Douglas, Ivan of Salt Lake City and Owen of Washington, D.C. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Interment will be made in the Covington cemetery beside his wife who passed away in 1946. Arrangements will be announced by the Fossett funeral home.

Services will be held in the Covington Christian church at 2 p.m. Friday for Alerich O. Scott, 83, of Covington. Rev. Percy Beck will officiate and burial will follow in the Covington cemetery.

The Fossett funeral home cared for the body.

Alerich married Melissa Ellen "Ella" Lawson daughter of William Jasper Lawson and Sarah Rachel Yates in 1887. Melissa was born on 28 Jun 1869 in Ia. She died on 8 Jan 1946. She was buried in Covington Cem, Garfield, Ok.

Melissa Ellen Scott, 76, died at her home in Covington early Saturday morning following an illness of five weeks.

She was born in Iowa but moved to Missouri with her parents at an early age. In 1887 she married A. Owen Scott at Butler, MO.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Methodist church until coming to Oklahoma in 1906. Later she joined the Christian Union Church at Pleasant Valley near Douglas.

She had lived on a farm near Douglas since 1906 until her husband's retirement when they moved to Covington about 13 years alo. In covington, whe joined the First Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, A. Owen Scott, of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Coleman of Hutchinson, Kans, Mrs. Alma Stout of Douglas, Mrs. Fannie Gowin of Bartlesville, and Mrs. Rachel Rhodes of Roswell, NM; four sons, Ernest of Covington, Delmar of Douglas, Ivan of Salt Lake City, Urah, and Owen of Washington, D.C.; two sisters Mrs. Effie Lewis of Sedalia, MO and Mrs. Belle Wilcox of Los Angeles, Calif; twenty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the fossett Funeral Home.

Alerich and Melissa had the following children:

  3 M ii Ernest Scott was born on 12 Sep 1892 in Rich Hill, Bates, Mo. He died on 18 Apr 1973 in Enid, Garfield, Ok. He was buried in Covington Cem, Garfield, Ok.

Ernest E. Scott, 80, Covington, died late Wednesday night in a local rest home. He was bron Sept. 12, 1893 in Rich Hill, MO and came to Oklahoma in 1906, settling in the Douglas-Covington area where he was a farmer.

His wife died in 1965 and his parents, three sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.

Scott was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by two brothers, Delmar E. Scott of Covington and Ivan Scott, Truth or Consequences, NM; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Rhodes, Roswell, NM, and Mrs. Alma Stout of Douglas; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral rites for Scott will be at 10 am Saturday in the Covington Cemetery with Paston Carloton F. Kjergaard officiating. Interment will be in the Covington Cemetery, under the direction of the Fossett Funeral Home

FORMER DOUGLAS MAN DIES OF FALL IN WASHINGTON
Owen Scott, 42, died Saturday evening as a result of a fall from a building in Washington, D.C. while he was working for a construction company.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Scott of Covington and Douglas and a graduate of the Douglas High School with the class of 1929. He served in the U.S. Marines and lived in Washington, D.C. for several years.

Survivors include his wife of the home, one daughter and two grandchildren;
three brothers, Ernest Scott, Covington, Delmer Scott, Douglas and Ivan Scott, Salt Lake City, Utah; four sisters, Mrs. Harvey Stout, Douglas, Mrs. Bertha Coleman, Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Fannie Gowin, Bartlesville, Okla. and Mrs Rachel Rhodes of California.
