ALFRED LINCOLN (LINK) AND EMMA LOUISA WOLLAM (As received from Roy Wollam, May
23, 1997.
Alfred Lincoln (Link) Wollam was born October 7, 1862 in Middleton township,
Columbiana Co. Ohio. His family moved to Monroe Township, Coshocton, Co. Ohio
by covered wagon approximately 1865. He married Emma Louisa Williamson May 30,
1882 in Monroe Township, Coshocton Co., Ohio. Emma Williamson was born October
31, 1865 in Blissfield, Coshocton Co., Ohio.

Alfred and Emma Wollam lived in Coshocton Co., Ohio until they moved to Conroe,
Texas January 1911. {Piatt Williamson Family History states they moved from
Ada, Hardin County, Ohio} He made a trip to Texas on a Home Excursion Train in1910 and decided it would be a good future for his family. In an article by
Mrs. Nellie Wollam, wife of Perry Benson Wollam, she explained they were shown
a picture of an orange grove and told they could get rich on 10 acres of
citrus. She told how the family packed everything including a team of horses
on three boxcars. She continued to say that Mrs. Emma Wollam brought a barrel
of kraut and 2 barrels of cured pork. It soon got hot and they had to can the
kraut and cook the pork. They moved to Danbury, Texas in the fall of 1911 and
lived in Sweeny between 1913 and 1915. It is told that while in Sweeny, he
bought 1,000 acres of land for $.50 an acre and sold it for $1.00 an acre.
This land later became a part of a very rich oil field. They moved back to
Danbury where they lived until their death. Alfred Link Wollam died March 5,
1937 and was buried in Danbury, Brazoria Co., Texas. Emma Louisa Wollam died
December 18, 1950 and is also buried in Danbury.

Their first two children were born in Monroe Township, Coshocton Co., Ohio,
Lloyd S. Wollam born December 16, 1883, died March 1932 and Thomas (Tommie) E.
Wollam born May 14, 1885. Tommie died October 24, 1904 and was buried in the
Big Run Cemetery while the family lived in Ohio. Lloyd was buried in the
Blissfield cemetery in March 1932. The other seven children were born in
Layland, Coshocton County, Ohio. (one study indicated they were all born in
Monroe Township)

Alfred (Link) Wollam was a realtor and farmer. His home in Danbury was built on
a block of land on Ave. F next to the school property. He always had a big
garden which provided food for the family and neighbors. The grandchildren were
never allowed to go into the garden but could eat all they wanted of the
strawberries and other vegetables that were in the house. After his death, the
property was purchased by the school district. The land was used for a ball
diamond, a football field and is now the location for a school building.

Alfred married Emma Louisa Williamson on 30 Apr 1882 in , Ohio. Emma was born on 31 Oct 1865 in Blissfield, Cochocton, Ohio. She died on 18 Dec 1950 in Danbury, Brazoria, Texas. She was buried on 21 Dec 1950 in Danbury, Brazoria, Texas.

This record was written by George Henry Wollam and copied by his grandson. Theodore B. Wollam. .It was not completed. Contributed by Ida Woolam, 2693 S.E. 5th Street, West Linn, Oregon. (Ida is now deceased) Taken from Periodical "Union Echoes" Vol. 6, #5, Sep. 1986 Issue and received from the Allen County Library, Fort Wayne, IN..
I was born on January 9,1863 in a place then called Fredericktown, in Columbiana County, Ohio. About 30 yards east of the house in which I first saw the light of day, very close to the bank of a roaring little stream, stood my father's cooper shop. This shop was deeply entwined in the childhood memories of my older brothers and sister.
My father was Alfred Wollam, born on January 8,1818, being 45 years and a day older than I. He was born near this same town, Fredericktown, about a half mile north and half mile east. His father Jacob Wollam was 26 years old at the time of my father's birth, or in the year 1792 being the year of his birth and the place was Old Virginia, a few miles to the south and west of Martinsburg, now in W. Virginia, on a slow moving little stream still known as Sleepy Creek. This Jacob Wollam was my grandfather. At the age of 12 years he moved with his father Baltzar Wollam from Martinsburg to Columbiana county, Ohio.
They moved by ox team and hand made wagons across a narrow arm of Maryland till they came to the Monongahela River. Here they stopped and built a crude raft, loaded all their things, such as oxen, cows,, dough troughs, ox yokes, hoes, wooden pitch forks, home woven linen clothing, guns, axes, boats, cow chains, harrow teeth, chickens, buckskin coats. A cabin was on this raft, in fact all they had. There were other families on this raft besides Baltzer and his boy Jacob. One man named Spahr (See Spahr Genealogy) with a little daughter 8 years old. This child, Elizabeth Spahr, afterwards became the wife of little Jacob and became my grandmother. Baltzer Wollam had sons Ben, John, William, Henry. Joe and Jacob. Baltzer was born in 1742 near Martinsburg and spent most of his active life there, as the records testify to his land transactions.

George married Susan Delaney on 10 Mar 1884. Susan died on 14 Jul 1913.

They had the following children:

  174 M i Alfred Wollam was born on 15 Mar 1888. He died on 23 Aug 1951.
