4. John Turbyfill 1 (John Turbyfill , Richard , John ) was born about 1742 in Charles City, Va. He died on 6 Apr 1838 in Lincoln Co, Nc.

John moved with his father to Brunswick County in 1754.

Served in American Revolutionary War and was in Battle of Kings Mountain. He decided to move to what is now Catawba County, North Carolina, while passing through with the Army. Sold his land in Brunswick County, VA in 1788 and purchased 248 acres on the south fork of the Catawba River in Catawba County, North Carolina in 1791. (Catawba was formerly a part of Lincoln County)

Farmer, surveyor, Justice of the Peace, served as Justice of the County Court from 1804-1820. Methodist faith -helped organize Rehobeth Church in 1790.

THIS INDENTURE made this twenty fourth day of November in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight between John Turbyfill and Nancy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Roger Mallory Junior of the other part.
WITNESSETH: The said John Turbyfill and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred pounds Current Money of Virginia to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge themselves to be fully satisfied with, hath given granted, bargained, sold enfeoffed and confirmed, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, enfeoff and confirm unto the said Roger Mallory his heirs and assigns forever, One certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid and bounded as followeth (to-wit) BEGINNING at the Store at Brown's, a corner Red Oak, thence along his Cart path to the Smoky Ordinary road, thence down the said Road to James Turbyfill's a corner pine, thence along his line down a small branch to the Spring branch, thence up thence up the said branch to corner Sweet Gum, thence along the said Line to the Smoky Ordinary Road, thence down the Road to Aron Brown's Corner on the said Road, thence along his line to Colonel Brown's line, and so on to the beginning containing by estimation four hundred acres (be the same more or less) TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Tract of Land and premises with all the houses, fences, gardens and every other appurtenances thereunto belonging or any wise -appertaining unto the said Roger Mallory his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Roger Mallory his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose, whatsoever, and the said John Turbyfill and Nancy his wife for themselves, their heirs and assigns do covenant confirm and agree to and with the said Roger Mallory his heirs and assigns, that they will Warrant and forever defend the said land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Roger Mallory his heirs and assigns forever against themselves their heirs and assigns and against every claim or claims of every person or persons whatsoever.

This Indenture was acknowledged by John Turbyfill and Nancy his wife to be their act and deed and ordered to be recorded, previous to which the said Nancy being privately examined as the law directs did voluntarily assent thereto.

not given), a James Mays was adm'r of sol's estate in 1851, in 1853 James T. & Nancy E. Grise made a joint aff'dt in Gaston Co NC but their relationship to sol "if any" was not given.

Military Service: Soldier in VA Line, Revolutionary War.
Occupation: County Surveyor, Justice of Peace, Justice of County Court from 1804 until 1820.

John married Nancy Corbin daughter of John Corbin about 1765 in Brunswick Co, Va.

Is named in the willl of Lucy and John as their grandson. In 1794 he sold his property in Brunswick County to his Uncle Seth and came to Lincoln (now Catawba) County, NC. In 1815 he sold his property in Lincoln Co. and bought land across the Catawba Riber in Iredell Co, NC, where he moved. After 1830 he moved to Maury Co, TN.
        Littleberry married (1) Martha Connelly on 28 Nov 1796 in Brunswick Co, VA.

In 1810 lived in Newberry, SC. Was on the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Lincoln Co, NC Census. Between 1840 and 1850 he and several of his married children moved to Cass Co, GA. Before 1870 moved to Franklin Co, AL. Most of the descendants reside in AL, AR and TX..
