The Wollams were French Huguenots who fled to Switzerland during the years of
persecution in France. They eventually went to the Karlsruhe area in Germany
(ca 1600's) and settled by the river Ulm from which they adopted their new
name. Apparently in 1700, Adam and Matthias Ullom emigrated to Philadelphia
(via Rotterdam and New York).NOTE:Records from Roy Wollam, 23 May 1997, give his name as Matthias born 1684
in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany
