David Greenlee married Lucy Hill. (No other info available). They had children:
1. *David, born 1800, married 1820 Martha Moutray, died 1866
David Greenlee was born in 1800 in NC and died 1866. Last address was Crawford, MO. He married Martha "Patsy" Moutray
in 1820 in Anthonies Mill, Washington County, MO. She was born in 1801 in Chatham, NC, the daughter of Joseph H. Moutray
and Lucy Lacy. She died in 1864. Last address was Crawford Co, Mo. They had 7 children:
1. Angeline, born 20 Dec 1823, married 14 Oct 1847 James Paul, died 20 Dec 1902.
David Greenlee of Brazeal Creek came from Haywood Co., NC. His father was one of the Revolutioary soldiers who had
seen the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. David Greenlee fell in love with Martha Moutray, descendant of the old Carolina
family of that name. Both were of good standing and it seems difficult to understand why their parents should have objected to the marriage. But parental objections were much the same then as now, but of course, so too, was love. Both being barely twenty,
they needed parental consent and, further, being minors, the law required that they be married in Crawford County, where they
resided. There being more than one way to skin a cat, they eloped. They went to Anthonies Mill where they enlisted the
services of the Justice of the Peace of Washington County. Here they were married with the justice standing in Washington
County and they standing in Crawford County. There were at least three unidentified female children counted in this household
1830 one 5/10 (15/20 in 1840) 1840 one 20/30 two 15/20. The Greenlee book showed David and Martha as having seven
children but did not name them.
John Elijah Greenlee was born 4 March 1812 in TN. He married Rachel Ella Litton 25? Nov 1832. She was born 20 Feb 1811 in KY,
the daughter of William Litton and Susan _________. John Elijah died 26 June 1850. Last address was Black Hills, SD. Rachel Ella
died in 1882. Last address was Anthonies Mill, Washington, MO. They had 9 children:
1. Mary Jane born 11 Mar 1834, married 15 Nov 1865 Daniel Boyster, Lucien
It is unlikely that Elijah married Nancy Little (as marriage record shows) one day before he married Rachel Ella Litton (as shown in Genealogy of the Greenlee Family, page 545-7). Could they be the same person or did something get mixed up in the transcribing
for the book. To date (1996) a marriage record has not been found. Elijah's death date shown June 16, 1850 in the above book. "Started for California March 22 and died June 16 when I was four years old. One brother born August 4 after he died. Sub. By Mrs. Nancy Summers, daughter of John Elijah. He died near Black Hills, SD on the way to California during the Gold Rush. In religion he was a Methodist. Rachel may have been a Catholic as Elijah Francis was baptized in the Caholic Church. Rachel was buried in the family cemetery on her son's farm at Anthonies Mill, Washington County, Missouri. There are no markers in the cemetery.
