History "The McClarens"Duncan McLaurin (McLaren was born in 1778 in Perthshire, Scotland. He died 20 Aug 1837 in Lochiel Township, Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada. He may have been the son of Duncan and Mary (Robertson) McLaren whose son, Duncan's, baptism was registered in Killin Parish, Scotland Records, 1 Mar 1778. This couple had children: John, Donald, Margaret, Duncan, William, Janes, Janet and Katherine. These names are almost identical to the names of Duncan and Anna Bella's children. However, this is only speculation.
Duncan McLaren, of Weems Parish, married Anna Bella McDiarmid of Kenmore
Parish, 18 Dec 1802, according to Killin Parrish records in Breadalbane,
Perthshire, Scotland. Anna Bella was born in 1781 in Perthshire, Scotland. She died 12 May 1870 according to a note opposite her name on the Breadalbane, Ontario, Canada Church membership list, 1850-1870, copied at McMasters University, October, 1973.Clan McLaren Society Quarterly, Vol III, No 12, p 22, "Petitions for land by Archibald McLaren", stated that the family emigrated from Glenlochay,
Perthshire, Scotland, on July 11, 1815 on the sailing ship Dorothy to Upper
Canada. The family settled on the north or rear half of Lots 1 and 2 and Lot
Letter A, consisting of 250 acres in Concession Eight, Township of Lochiel,
County of Glengarry.Note: I corresponded with Mr. Banks McLaurin, Jr., Editor of the "Clan McLaren Society, U.S.A." on October 31, 1972. Material which we had gathered on our visit to Toronto, Kincardine, Tiverton and McMasters University that October, had undeniable connected Duncan Stuart McLaren as a son of John D. & Mary (Stuart) McLaren who died in Tiverton. His answer on November 7, 1973, was as follows: "It's not every time that I can make a connection as quickly as I have been able to do this time.........You can see on Vol V, No. 20, page 48, that they had an incomplete list of children for your John and called his wife Miss Cameron; your Duncan Stuart was missing and they have Anna Bell, which you do not have, but otherwise it's correct." Page 22, of the same Volume above, places the above John as a son of Duncan and Anna Bella (McDiarmid) McLaren.
There is some question in my mind as to whether this connection is
correct. The Parochial records state that John, the son of Duncan McLaren and
Anna Bella McDiarmid, was baptized 4 Feb 1803. John D. McLaren's gravestone in Tiverton states that he was 73 at the time of his decease, which if correct, indicates that he was born after October in 1803 or in 1804. He might have been 74 when he died as it would not have been unusual for his children to have made an error, expecially since the mother of the family was already gone.If, at a later date, it is found that John D. McLaren's parentage is
herewith recorded incorrectly, revised pages for the first generation will be
made.
Duncan married Anna Bella McDiarmid on 18 Dec 1802 in Killin Parish, Breadalbane, Perthshire, Scotland. Anna was born in 1781 in of Kenmore Par., Perthshire, Scotland. She died on 12 May 1870 in , Ontario, Canada.

Donald married Ellen Forbes. 8 F vi Janet McLaren was born on 12 Aug 1815 in At Sea, Ss Dorothy. She died on 7 Feb 1907 in Lochiel, Canada. Janet married James Forbes on 18 Dec 1838 in Lochiel, Ontario, Canada. 9 M vii William McLaren was born on 10 Mar 1817 in Lochiel, Ontario, Canada. He died in 1890. William married Mary Morrison. 10 M viii James McLaren was born in Lochiel, Ontario, Canada. 11 M ix Archibald McLaren was born on 4 Mar 1821 in Lochiel, Ontario, Canada. Archibald married Marjory Lothian. 12 F x Annie McLaren was born in Lochiel, Ontario, Canada. Annie married James McKenzie.
