7. Reuben M. McKinney (Wilson , Thomas ) was born in Jul 1839 in , Yancy, Nc. He died in 1906 in , Mitchell, Nc. He was buried in , Mitchell, Nc.

Information was taken from U.S. Census for the years 1850, 1860 Yancy County
North Carolina and 1870-1900 Mitchell County North Carolina. Also Mitchell
County Marriage records. Rueben served in the Confederate Armed Forces during the Civil War from Mitchell County, N.C. He served in Co. B. 58 N.C. Infantry (State Troops). A review of his military service with the Confederate Army indicated that he was 23 years of age and he was drafted into the army June 16, 1862. The record stated that he was born in Yancy Co. North Carolina. He was inducted at Rock Creek, Mitchell Co. North Carolina by a J.W. Bowman. Reuben could not write his name. the record showed that of a mark of X and his name was written by J.W. Bowman. He was required to sign an oath of allegiance to the Confedrate States.

On or about 20 April 1863 he was reported as deserted from a place named
Clinton, Tennessee. Clinton is located in Anderson Co. Tennessee just north of Knoxville, Tennessee. The only personal description was that he was 5'6" in height. That area of the state of North Carolina was against slavery and lots of people join the armies of the federal government.

Additional Information: Rueben M. McKinney Enlisted in the Confederate Army,
Company B, 58 Regiment during the summer of 1862, He later transferred to
Company K, same Regiment. He applied for his pension on 7 Jul, 1902, at the
age of 61. It was signed with his mark.

During the battle of Chicamauga, he was injured and when discharged, suffered
from lung and heart trouble. Dr. John Stinchcomb of Bakersville, N.C. verified this by physical examination.

On 5 July 1909, Nervesta C. McKinney, age 59, widow of Rueben, asked for
Widow's Pension, which was approved. She signed with her mark. On 5 May 1928, Dr. A.M. Gouge examined her, stating that at 78 years of age, she was very feeble; reheumatic pains, which he labeled as chronic, made her unable to work and solely dependant on her pension for support.

On 12 August 1882, Wilson and Rachel McKinney, parents of Rueben, willed his
son a tract of land adjoining Aaron Gage and brother Thomas McKinney, near Grindstaff Corner. The land contained 40 (more of less) acres. Both signed with their mark. He is buried in Mckinney Cemetery.

Reuben married Nervesta C. Baker on 10 Jan 1867 in , Mitchell, North Carolina. Nervesta was born in May 1849 in , Yancy, Nc. She died on 31 Mar 1934 in , Mitchell, Nc. She was buried on 1 Apr 1934 in , Mitchell, Nc.

Information was taken from 1850-1860 Yancy County and 1870-1900 Micthell County North Carolina U.S. Census and the Mitchell County Marriage records. I also talked to Mrs. Panleo Howell who was a Greatgrand daughter of Nervesta's. Mrs. Howell stated that she aslo went by the name of Manveria, but she did not know why because it was not her offical name.

9. Thomas J. McKinney (Wilson , Thomas ) was born on 17 Jan 1845 in , Yancy, Nc. He died on 17 Oct 1927 in , Mitchell, Nc. He was buried in Toe Cane, Mitchell, Nc.

Marriage and death records for Mitchell Co. N.C. Thomas enlisted in Company H.
29 Regiment on June 15, 1863 in Mitchell Co. Confedrate Army. His pension
application, dated 8/10/1922 does not list the battles, but he was honorably
discharded. He signed papers with his mark. He is buried in Johnson Cemetery
in Toe Cane, N.C..
McKINNEY, THOMAS J.: Co. B. B. 1845 D. 10/18/1927.

Thomas married (1) Jane Drake on 8 Aug 1872 in , Mitchell Co., North Carolina.

Jane died prior to the 1880 Census for Mitchell Co. North Carolina.

Thomas married (2) Mary Vandalia "Vandy" Young on 15 May 1882. Mary was born in 1861. She died in 1945. She was buried in Toe Cane, Mitchell, Nc.

Dr. A.E. Gouge of Bakersville, N.C. examined Mary Vandalia Mckinney on
1/28/1932, age 72, stating she was rather a lean type, quite feeble, heart
systolic 238, distolic 108. Diagnosis - hypertension, chronic heart heart
disease. She was totally disabled. Confined to house. Signed her mark.
She was buried in the Johnson Cemetery.
