"In the fall of 1807, Mary Robinson, oldest daughter of that family settled on Lucy Run, started on horseback to the home of the Mitchells, near Newberry, a distance of twelve miles. A snow storm hit the trace and slackened her speed. As night came near, she dismounted, tied the horse and tried to find her course. Amid the anxious search, she heard the howling of wolves on her track and hastened to mount, but the frightened horse reared and plunged beyond control. Yet, that kept the wolves at bay, and all she could do was to keep out of their circle and still avoid the kicking horse all through the long, cold night, in which the exercise kept her from freezing. As the day came, the wolves quit, and she succeeded in mounting, and reached the Mitchells before she fainted and passed into a serious illness. She married William Weaver and reared a happy family but she shuddered at the memory of her night in the woods with the wolves."

OBITUARY FROM THE CLERMONT SUN
Rebecca Weaver Hulick was born near Paw Paw Station in Virginia (now WV) on the 27th day of January, A.L. 1799, and died at the residence of her son, James Hulick, Jr., near Batavia, on Wednesday eveing.

At the age of six years, with her parents, John and Catherine Peckinpaugh Weaver and seven brothers and sisters, she came to this country, and this pioneer family settled on the old Weaver farm, three miles east of Batavia, where the only surviving member of the family, Simeon Weaver now lives.

On the 8th day of October, 1816, at the age of seventeen years, she united in marriage with James Hulick who now survives her, at the advanced age of 87 years. Immediately after their marriage they located on their homestead farm, where they have lived together for 60 years.

At the age of sixteen years she joined the Methodist Church, and with her husband, enjoyed sixty years of happy communion in the church. She saw her children, five sons and one daughter, grow up around her, all active workers in the church of her choice - one son having died after he arrived at manhood.

When the deceased came to this country, she found it covered with dense forests, and almost uninhabited save by wild beasts and native savages. All this has passed away and with it many of her early associates and acquaintances.

For the last few years her husband has been greatly afflicted in the loss of his sight and bodily health, and in all this his companion has devoted her entire energies in administering to his comfort and enjoyments, until one week before her death, when she was stricken down with paralysis. All her children and many of her grandchildren surrounded her dying bed, and in their sorrow rejoiced to see their mother die in full hope of eternal life. During her illness she often spoke of death, and at all times expressed her willingness to die - yes, she "desired to depart and be with Christ." Thus has passed away a good mother, an affectionate wife, and a true christian woman. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.

Rebecca married James Hulick son of John Hulick and Mary Lott on 8 Oct 1816 in Clermont Co, Oh.
